ChatGPT now connects to iCloud. Start with one useful habit

New iCloud Mail and Calendar connections bring AI closer to everyday work. A simple catch-up task can help you learn what to ask for next.

The useful part

Begin by asking for a summary you can check. Your everyday knowledge is what turns a connection into something useful.

Closer to the work you already do

If your day starts with an inbox and a calendar, learning AI can begin there too. On October 27, OpenAI announced iCloud Mail and Calendar connections in ChatGPT. The update lets iCloud users find emails, catch up on their inbox, check their schedule, and update calendar events.

OpenAI lists availability across all ChatGPT plans on the web, desktop, and iOS. You still need to connect the services. Read the permissions you are asked to grant, especially before bringing work information into a connected account.

Ask for something you can check

A good first request is narrow and familiar. You might ask for a summary of one email conversation you already understand. Compare the result with the messages themselves. Did it keep the dates straight? Did it notice the question that still needs an answer?

You are learning two things at once: what the tool can help with, and how to describe the help you want. If a summary is too vague, ask for the next action, the person responsible, and the information still missing. Leave room for the answer to say that something is unclear.

Start with reading and summarising before trying changes to your calendar. When you are ready to update an event, check the date, time, people, and details before relying on the result. For shared work, agree who is allowed to make those changes.

Notice what keeps coming back

As you try this, keep a note of the steps you repeat. Maybe several messages have to be read before you can work out what is waiting. Perhaps an agreed time is easy to lose in a long conversation. Your own experience will show which problems are worth a closer look.

That is useful preparation for building a tool. You can explain what happens today, show where it gets slow, and describe what should be easier. You may find that a connected assistant is enough. You may also uncover a need for a shared view or a purpose-built tool. Either answer can help you choose where to spend your effort.

  1. Choose one familiar conversation to summarise.
  2. Check the summary against the original messages.
  3. Write down one repeated step you would like to make easier.

Learn with the work in front of you

Our view is that everyday connections can make AI easier to learn because the task is already familiar. You bring the judgement about what matters. The tool gives you a new way to work with it.

If you would like guidance, a practical session built around your own process can be a comfortable place to start. If you already know the repeated problem you want solved, bring that example to a builder. You do not need a list of technical features to begin the conversation.
