A voice option could make your app easier to use
ElevenLabs audio tools have arrived on Vercel. If speaking would make a customer task easier, this is a useful moment to explore a small, thoughtful voice feature.
Start with a task where speaking genuinely helps. Keep a text option, make the controls clear, and check whether people feel understood.
Another way to build spoken interaction
Sometimes it is easier to ask a question aloud than find the right button. A well-designed voice option could give customers or colleagues another comfortable way to get something done.
On October 27, Vercel announced a partnership bringing 14 ElevenLabs audio tools to AI Gateway, its connection service for AI tools. These include tools that turn speech into text, read text aloud, and support live spoken conversations. Audio use appears alongside other AI use in Vercel's reporting.
That gives builders another route to adding voice. It does not make voice the right choice for every task, or establish that a particular app will understand every person reliably. The useful question is where a spoken option would help the people you serve.

Choose a task that suits a conversation
Start with something short and easy to confirm. A person might ask how a service works, find the next step in a process, or hear an explanation of a page they are reading. A clear answer and a way to ask again can be more useful than a long conversation.
Think about the setting too. Someone in a shared room may prefer typing. Someone checking a name, number, or address may want to see it written down. Keep a text route available and let the person choose without losing their place.
For an action that changes a record or sends something, show what will happen and ask for confirmation before carrying it out. A friendly voice should help someone stay in control of the task.
Practise the experience before building it
You can explore the idea with another person before connecting an AI service. One of you plays the customer. The other follows a short draft script and answers the question. Notice where the conversation feels natural and where it needs a clearer choice.
Then consider what the screen should show alongside the voice. Make it obvious when the app is listening, how to stop it, and whether audio is being recorded or sent to another service. These are part of the experience to plan with your builder.
- Choose one question people regularly ask.
- Write a short answer and a helpful follow-up question.
- Try the exchange aloud and note any confusion.
- Design a visible stop control and an equally useful text option.
Let the user's comfort guide the feature
Our view is that the most useful voice features will earn their place by making a real task more comfortable. Sounding lifelike is only one part of that. People also need clear choices, accurate information, and a way to get human help when it is needed.
If you want to learn to build with AI, this is a lovely project to explore with guidance. If you want a team to build it for you, bring the customer question and the setting where it is asked. That is a strong starting point for a thoughtful design.
