n8n 3.0 beta: prepare the work your team relies on
If n8n handles repeated work for your team, start with its readiness report. The new test release offers a useful chance to prepare before changing the tools people rely on.
Review one useful process, make a backup, and try changes on a separate copy before touching everyday work.
A chance to prepare, without rushing
If a tool already saves your team time, keeping that work dependable matters. Start by checking what it does today and who relies on it. That gives you a useful starting point for n8n's next version.
n8n connects tools so a sequence of tasks can run automatically. On October 27, it released version 3.0 as a beta, a test release people can choose to try. The company plans a stable release for early December. It says this update concentrates on reliability and safer defaults, rather than major new features.
Some older features are being removed, so existing processes may need changes. This is preparation news, rather than a reason to move working business tasks onto a beta today.

n8n's Migration Report is available under Settings in version 2.39 or later. It identifies affected processes and settings. Its official guidance says to review both parts of the report, take a full backup, and test an upgrade on a separate copy first.
The beta is optional, including on n8n Cloud. Returning from version 3 to version 2 requires restoring a backup. n8n says version 2 will continue receiving security and critical fixes for 12 months after version 3 becomes stable. There is time to plan.
If your team runs n8n on its own server, check the hosting requirements too. Version 3 requires Docker, software that packages and runs an application separately from other software. Ask whoever manages the server to review that change before upgrading.
Make one repeated job easy to check
Choose a process you understand well. Write down what starts it, what information it needs, and the result someone expects. Use made-up records when you practise, and keep outgoing messages away from real customers.
This exercise also helps when you are learning to build with AI. A clear example gives you something to compare against an AI-generated change. You can spot a missing step before it reaches the people doing the work.
- Pick one process and name the person who can confirm its result.
- Record a normal example, a missing detail, and a repeated request.
- Review the readiness report with the person responsible for n8n.
- Try the examples on a separate copy and agree what must pass before an upgrade.
Keep the knowledge alongside the tool
Our view is that understanding your own process will remain valuable as automation tools change. A short record of expected results, approvals, and recovery steps can help the next person maintain what you build. You can make that record now, while your current work continues.
