How to compare Microsoft Fabric and Databricks implementation proposals
Compare Fabric and Databricks proposals using the same data workflow, access needs, recurring updates and costs.

Choose the report or AI task you need first
A shared data platform can make reporting and AI work easier when teams agree on the information and decisions it must support. Agree what each record means and who can correct it before moving the sources.
Before choosing implementation help, identify the first useful output and the people responsible for its source records.

Scope a complete information journey
Choose a report, operational dataset or AI use case that depends on several sources. Define how current the information needs to be and what the receiving team must be able to verify.
Include the work before and after the platform. Data preparation, access approvals, business definitions and interpretation remain necessary even when the selected product offers tools for each stage.
Understand the proposed environment
Microsoft's overview describes Fabric as an analytics platform covering activities such as ingestion, transformation and reporting. A Microsoft Fabric consultant should identify the particular components and connections included in your engagement.
Databricks describes a lakehouse architecture that brings storage and processing approaches together for different data workloads. Databricks consulting should likewise explain the actual information model, operating arrangement and business result being delivered.
Give both suppliers the same information task and ask what they would set up, operate and charge for.
Make definitions and access explicit
Record which source owns each important value, how conflicting records are resolved and who approves a changed definition. Identify the people allowed to read or alter each dataset.
For an illustrative report, agree when an order counts, which currency is used and how a later cancellation affects the total. Have the responsible business team verify the result after the first data move.
Test the recurring update
A platform demonstration often uses prepared data. Acceptance should also show the next update, including late information, a duplicate record and a corrected value from an earlier period.
Check how the team learns that a source failed or a report is incomplete. A visibly delayed output is more useful than a current-looking dashboard built from yesterday's missing records.
Include the operating costs
Ask which subscriptions, computing capacity, storage, external connections and administrative work the design requires. Agree who can monitor usage and approve changes affecting spend.
Keep development and routine operation distinguishable in the proposal. Name the people responsible for future changes to sources and reports.
Buy a usable handover
The business should retain account control, source definitions, transformation rules, acceptance examples and operating documentation. Include training for the people who will administer the environment and for those who depend on the resulting information.
