What to include in an ecommerce and payment integration

Brief your integration around payment confirmation, the order record, delivery and the changes that happen after checkout.

The useful part

Ask for tests where a customer leaves after paying and where the provider sends a payment notification twice.

Follow an order beyond the payment screen

A successful payment screen is not the end of a purchase. The order still needs the right status, the customer needs confirmation and the business must know what to deliver. Ecommerce integration services should cover that whole chain.

Start with a real purchase journey and the records each team depends on afterward.

Name the events that change the promise

Write down what should happen when an order is created, payment is pending, payment succeeds or a customer requests a change. Include cancellation, refunds and delivery exceptions where they affect the process.

Ask which system confirms payment and how the order system receives that confirmation if the customer leaves checkout early.

For an illustrative purchase, closing the browser after paying should not leave the business unable to recognize the order. A repeated notification should not create a second order either. Ask the supplier to demonstrate both cases.

Keep orders, money and access distinct

Stripe integration services can support a range of purchasing arrangements. Subscription billing development also needs rules for renewals, payment failures, cancellation and access to the service. Agree what each billing state means for the customer before implementing it.

Stripe documents notifications for subscription activity because important changes happen after the original checkout. That is a product-specific example of why continuing payment events belong in the scope. The exact event handling needs to match the account and business model.

Decide who can refund a payment, what record is retained and whether related access or fulfilment should change. A partial refund, for example, may leave the rest of an order active.

Choose the right level of platform work

Shopify development services may involve configuring an existing store, building a custom app or connecting external operations. Shopify API integration refers to software communicating with the platform. Ask which of those jobs the quote covers and which platform features are already sufficient.

An existing connector can be useful if it supports the actual fields, order states and error handling. Ask the supplier to demonstrate the required action using the connector.

Make exceptions visible to the right person

Agree who sees a payment without a matching order, an order waiting for confirmation or an update that failed. Staff should have a way to investigate and retry without charging the customer again or duplicating fulfilment.

Use representative tests for the supported currencies, payment methods and markets. Relevant tax and commercial rules should be reviewed for the business's arrangement; a working integration does not settle them.

Price the ongoing transaction journey

Separate development from transaction charges, platform subscriptions, connected apps and monitoring. Include a way to reconcile orders and payments after launch.

AI App Studio can help connect checkout, customer records and the work that follows. Book a call with the part of the order journey that currently needs manual checking.
