How to set up employee IT onboarding and device management
Give new employees the equipment and access their role requires, then use the same ownership rules when they change roles or leave.

Define what someone needs on their first day
A person can have a working laptop and still be unable to do their job. Employee IT onboarding services should connect the equipment, accounts, applications and approvals that make someone ready to work.
Start with the role and the tasks the person must complete, then define what must be ready and who authorizes it.

Build a role-based starting arrangement
List the device, accounts, applications and shared information each role needs. Distinguish access that comes with the role from exceptions requiring approval. Keep a record of what was provided and who owns each account or item of equipment.
For an illustrative new joiner, check a real task such as opening the shared workspace and completing an internal request. Have the employee open the relevant tools and complete the task with the permissions their role provides.
Choose management according to the environment
Device management services can include enrolment, configuration, updates and retirement. Intune implementation services and Jamf consulting relate to particular management platforms and device environments. Ask which devices, licences and operating responsibilities the proposed platform covers.
Microsoft's Intune guidance explains the connection between identities, devices and applications. It provides a useful product example of why those responsibilities should be considered together. Confirm the actual controls available for each platform and account arrangement in your project.
Separate company and personal equipment
Agree what the business can manage, what support is included and how company information is separated or removed where personal devices are involved. Explain the arrangement to employees before enrolment. Document what administrators can see or remove from a personal device.
Managed endpoint services should name continuing tasks such as monitoring device state, handling updates and responding to exceptions. Decide who follows up when a device has not connected or no longer meets the agreed requirements.
Include role changes and departures
IT offboarding automation needs a reliable trigger and an authorized decision about timing. Include access removal, equipment return, shared information ownership and business work that must continue after a person leaves.
Test the actual departure process across the relevant systems. Check for separate application logins and shared permissions that survive removal of the main account. Keep a way to confirm what completed and which exceptions still need attention.
Judge the process by readiness and closure
Record whether a new employee can complete the required tasks and whether a departing employee's responsibilities have been resolved. Review recurring manual steps that cause delays, but keep approvals where they protect an important decision.
AI App Studio can help map and connect employee technology handovers. Book a call with the joining or leaving process that currently depends on several people remembering separate steps.
