How to set up IT service management around real requests
Set up a service desk that captures requests, routes approvals and gives people a clear view of who owns the next step.

Give each request a clear starting point
When requests arrive through inboxes, chats and informal conversations, people cannot easily see who is responsible or what happens next. IT service management implementation should create a dependable route from a request to a useful resolution.
ITSM is the organization of technology services and the processes behind them. A new portal helps when its categories, approvals and operating responsibilities match the work people need done.

Separate requests from interruptions
A request for new access follows a different path from an unexpected outage. Atlassian's service-request guidance distinguishes a formal request for something from an incident that disrupts an existing service.
Define the common request types and the information needed to handle them. Keep the entry process understandable for someone who does not know the names of internal teams or products.
Design a useful service catalogue
Service catalog design should explain what people can request, who may request it and the next step. Avoid making users choose a technical category before they can describe their need.
Include the expected approval, responsible team and confirmation of completion. If a request crosses teams, keep a visible owner throughout the handover. Pass the request history and next action to the receiving team.
Scope the selected platform
ServiceNow implementation services should identify the workflows, records, integrations and operating model included. Confirm the product subscriptions and capabilities required for that scope.
For a Freshservice implementation, ask to see a request through approval and delivery, with its device or software record where relevant. Ask a Zendesk implementation consultant to show which support channels feed the same record and how staff pick up a conversation after a handover.
Connect requests to the right records
IT asset management implementation should establish what an asset record represents, where its information comes from and who maintains it. Decide how devices, software, access and responsible people are connected where relevant.
Avoid collecting a large inventory without an operating purpose. For a device request, the team may need to know what is available, who approves allocation and how the assignment is recorded. Start with the fields needed for allocation and the records staff will maintain afterward.
Test a complete handover
For an illustrative acceptance exercise, submit a request with missing information, obtain the required approval, fulfill it and confirm the result with the requester. Check that delays and unanswered questions remain visible to a responsible person.
Repeat the exercise when an approver is absent and when a connected system is unavailable. Review notifications and reporting so the portal does not create a new queue that nobody owns.
Plan administration and improvement
ITSM implementation services should include training, documentation and a clear owner for workflow changes. Review recurring request causes and incomplete handovers after launch. Count a completed service outcome separately from a ticket closed without confirmation.
AI App Studio can help organize service requests and connect the tools behind them. Book a call with a request that currently needs too much chasing.
