How to plan an ERP implementation around a real transaction

Follow one transaction through the business
When orders, stock, purchasing and finance use different records, staff spend time reconciling what happened. ERP implementation services aim to join those operations in a shared business system. The rollout succeeds when people can complete the work and trust the resulting records.
Before choosing a platform or implementation partner, identify the process that needs to become dependable and the information it must preserve.

Follow one transaction through the business
Take a representative order or purchase from its first request to its final accounting entry. Record the approvals, customer or supplier details, quantities, status changes and corrections involved. Identify where the same information is currently entered more than once.
Decide which system should own each value. A customer address, product code or payment status should have an agreed source so that connected applications do not keep overwriting one another.
Compare the implementation scope
An Odoo implementation partner, Dynamics 365 Business Central consultant or provider of NetSuite implementation services should explain the proposed process in terms your team can check. Ask which needs use standard configuration and which require custom work.
Include licensing, setup, data preparation, integrations, training and continuing support in the comparison. The software subscription and the implementation project are different commitments. Verify any claimed partner status through the relevant vendor.
Prepare a controlled data move
List the records needed at launch and the history that can remain accessible elsewhere. Agree how duplicates, missing codes and inconsistent values will be resolved before migration.
Microsoft's Business Central guidance describes practicing in a sandbox and mapping source data into the destination structure. It also distinguishes initial configuration-package use from importing data into a company already in production. The supported method should be confirmed for your specific system and stage.
Ask the team to reconcile important totals and inspect representative records after a test move. Check balances, relationships and permissions separately from the number of records moved.
Treat accounting connections as operating processes

Give the launch an acceptance gate
Have the people who do the work complete their own representative scenarios. Include exceptions and month-end responsibilities where relevant. Record what has passed, what remains open and who can approve the switch.
After launch, keep a clear route for questions and corrections. The business should retain account ownership, operating documentation and visibility of any custom components that need maintenance.
